A History of Air Afrique

Zeitraum: 01.03.2019 - 01.03.2022

Projektleitung: Dr. Marie Huber

This project will investigate the corporate history of Air Afrique, the multinational West-African airline that was jointly founded in 1961 by eleven West African states in the wake of decolonisation from French rule. The airline was supposed to serve as a symbol for regional integration, fit to showcase the post-colonial unity and economic potential of the new West African nations. After an initially successful decade, the airline disintegrated, in parallel with the Pan-African dream, slowly but definitely into failure over the next decades and stopped operating due to bankruptcy in 2002.
