Regina Höfer is an Art Historian specialising in Indian and Tibetan art and a curator. Her PhD-theses focused on the interpretation of a museum collection (A Habsburg Trophy Hunt: The South Asian Collection of Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Este between Colonial World View, Art and Souvenir).

 

Her research on Tibet focused on the Berlin collection of L. A. Waddell and its provenance (funded by the Kunsthistorisches Institut Florenz / Max-Planck-Institut in cooperation with Ethnologisches Museum and Museum für Asiatische Kunst in Berlin).

 

She also works on contemporary Tibetan art.

 

Besides her affiliation with the HU she is an associated academic at the Department of Asian and Islamic Art History, Institute of Oriental and Asian Studies, University of Bonn. She worked there and at the Institute of the History of Art, University of Vienna as a research associate and lecturer. Moreover, she has been assistant curator at the Asian Art Museum, Berlin and the MONREPOS Archaeological Research Centre and Museum for Human Behavioral Evolution, Roman-Germanic Museum, Mainz, and has curated several exhibitions.

 

Besides Indian and Tibetan Buddhist art, her research interests include provenance research, colonial Indian photography, Global Art, modern and contemporary Tibetan art, traditions of collecting Asian art and museums in Asia.
