Career

Juliette Huber is a research fellow at the Department of Asian and African Studies at Humboldt University. Following her MA studies in General Linguistics at the University of Zurich (Switzerland), she earned her PhD at Leiden University (the Netherlands) and has since worked as a research and teaching fellow at a variety of academic institutions, including Lund University (Sweden), the University of Regensburg (Germany) and the University of Zurich (Switzerland). To date, her research focus has been on the non-Austronesian Timor-Alor-Pantar languages spoken in the eastern part of Timor-Leste, and in particular Makalero, of which she has produced a descriptive grammar. At the Department of Asian and African Studies, she studies the Hakka variety of the Chinese-descended communities in both Timor-Leste as well as West Timor, concentrating on variation within phonology and lexicon.
