"Indonesian Women Filmmakers"
with Yvonne Michalik
(editor of the book "Indonesian Women Filmmakers", researcher, and documentary filmmaker)
and Olin Monteiro
(one of the book’s contributors, Indonesian feminist, writer, women documentary producer, photographer, and Head of Jakarta based NGO ArtforWomen)
While Indonesia’s film industry has experienced a rapid growth and diversification since the end of Suharto’s authoritarian New Order regime in 1998, these developments have received only little academic attention. Especially the role of women filmmakers, who have played an important part in shaping contemporary Indonesian cinema and constantly add new perspectives to it, has been widely overlooked.
After a short introduction and an historical overview on women filmmakers in Indonesia, the two speakers Yvonne Michalik and Olin Monteiro will discuss Indonesian women filmmakers’ attitudes towards feminism.
