Prof. Dr. Nadja-Christina Schneider
Short bio (please scroll down for German version)
I am currently professor of Gender and Media Studies for the South Asian Region (GAMS) at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. My disciplinary background is in South Asian and Islamic Studies as well as Modern and Contemporary History. I specialize in Area Media Studies. My research interests include cultural and urban studies, mobility and gender, secularism and religion as well as new media configurations. In 2016, I was a visiting professor at Heidelberg University (Chair of Visual and Media Anthropology) and a Feodor Lynen fellow at the University of Delhi in 2015.
Research project
I am co-speaker and the HU project leader of the joint interdisciplinary research project "Beyond Social Cohesion - Global Repertoires of Living Together (RePLITO)" (2021-2024), funded by the Berlin University Alliance (Main Call Exploration Projects Social Cohesion).

Kurzprofil
Nadja-Christina Schneider ist Südasienwissenschaftlerin mit Schwerpunkt Medien, Kultur und Gesellschaft. Seit März 2017 ist sie am IAAW Professorin für Gender and Media Studies for the South Asian Region.
Davor vertrat sie von Oktober 2009 bis Februar 2017 als Juniorprofessorin (W 1) einen am IAAW neu eingerichteten Querschnittsbereich, der sich mit Medien und Gesellschaft in Asien und Afrika befasste.
Schwerpunktinteressen ihrer Forschung liegen in den Bereichen Medien, Kultur und Gesellschaft in Südasien & darüber hinaus; Säkularität und religiöse Pluralität in Indien; Debatten und Aushandlungen über Geschlechterrollen und -gerechtigkeit; visuelle Wissensproduktion und Repräsentation assistierter Reproduktionstechnologien, Wandel von Familienformen und -bildern in Indien sowie digitale Medienkulturen.
Eine wichtige Inspiration für ihre Lehre am IAAW ist der Ansatz des Forschenden Lernens, der bereits in frühen Phasen des BA- und MA-Studiums auf eine Stärkung des sog. forschenden Habitus von Studierenden abzielt. Seit 2019 kooperiert Nadja-Christina Schneider im Bereich der digitalen Lehre mit OFF-University, einer Selbstorganisation gefährdeter Wissenschaftler*innen.
Nadja-Christina Schneider ist Co-Sprecherin des Verbundforschungsprojekts "Beyond Social Cohesion - Global Repertoires of Living Together (RePLITO)"(2021-2024) und an der HU Projektverantwortliche. RePLITO wird im Rahmen der Grand Challenge Social Cohesion der Berlin University Alliance gefördert.
