Limassa is a hitherto undescribed language of the Baka-Gundi branch of the Mundu-Baka family (Ubangi), spoken along the Sangha River in the north of the Republic of the Congo. Since it has only few speakers and is highly endangered to become extinct, the central goal of my dissertation project is a thorough linguistic study based on an extensive and diverse data corpus. This talk focuses on the adverbs of Limassa and gives a first overview. The language has a fairly manageable number of adverbs. Semantically, these can be divided into conceptual groups, such as adverbs referring to manner, spatial position, quantity, qualification and location in time. Various aspects of their morphosyntactic behaviour are discussed in order to better define this lexical category.
