In this talk, I build on previous work by Güldemann (2004, 2013) in analyzing the morphosyntax of Kwadi in the context of the language's genealogical relation to the Khoe family (Vossen 1997). Kwadi was formerly spoken by a group of small-scale pastoralists on the coast of south-western Angola who, by now, have completed language shift to the Cimbebasia language Kuvale (Bantu R.10). Our restricted knowledge of the language comes from field notes and recordings made by E.O.J. Westphal during the 1950s, which also form the basis of the present work. In addition, I use my own data recorded with two rememberers in 2014. Based on a restricted corpus of grammatical topics covered by the available elicitations, I provide an overview of Kwadi nominal and verbal morphosyntax, with special reference to morphology shared with languages of the Khoe family. The preliminary results contribute to the growing amount of historical-comparative evidence for a Khoe-Kwadi language family.
