We are pleased to announce that two prominent African women writers, guests of the DAAD artists' in residence program in Berlin, will be giving readings and have dialogues with us as part of the Foko programme.

We start with Maaza Mengiste who is an Ethiopian-American writer with a particular interest in the historical novel.

"Under The Lion's Gaze" (2010) and "The Shadow King" (2019), also available in German translation, deal with the 1970/80s Derg regime in Ethiopia and women's resistance to Italy's attempt to conquer Ethiopia during WW II respectively.

In case you have already read her texts, please address questions that you might have to Susanne Gehrmann till Friday 12.00 this week. She will forward the questions to the author for her preparation of the dialogue as she requested.
