Prof. em. Dr. Per K. Sørensen, Universität Leipzig and

Dr. John Ardussi, University of Virginia:

The Royal History of Sikkim: A Chronicle of the House of Namgyal
A new, fully annotated and illustrated Translation from the Tibetan Original.

Dr. John Ardussi and Prof. Per Sørensen will present their joint research project conducted together with Anna Balikci-Denjongpa on the royal history of Sikkim, and their new publication which was just released (at the end of May). They will outline the scope of their work, introduce their manuscript resources, and present the way they integrated artwork, photography, and other supplements including genealogies and maps. They will discuss how their translation made use of the 1910 unpublished draft version by Kazi Dawasamdup.

Prof. Per K. Sørensen is a Professor of Central Asian Studies at the University of Leipzig. His interests cover Tibetan and Himalayan literature, culture and history.

Dr. John Ardussi is a senior research fellow at the University of Virginia, Tibet Center. His focus of research is centred on the histories and cultures of Bhutan and Tibet, and the interrelations with the cultures and history of the Himalayan states.
