Lecture No.4 - Monday 31.05.21 – 18:15 CEST via Zoom

Dr. Rafał Beszterda, Nicolaus Copernicus University Torun:

Perspectives of Indo-Chinese Border Trade

This lecture will focus on the revived Trans-Himalayan border trade between India and Tibet region in the current geo-political situation. It will look at rules, conditions, requirements, and expectations from various sides, involving central and local governing, tradable goods, and both, official and black markets.

Which Himalayan passes are used vs. which are suitable for Indo-China trade? We will take a close look at present ideas to boost this kind of traditional trade. Dr. Rafał Beszterda will outline the everyday life of a trader on the way, in contrast to a modern way of living. All of this will serve to elucidate the question: What does it mean nowadays to be a trans-Himalayan trader?
