An Insider's View from the Daughters of the Sultan of Yogyakarta – Female Empowerment in Java: Kartini's Heirs between Traditional Court Culture, Feminism and Concepts of Beauty

April 21, 2026, marks Kartini's 147th birthday. To celebrate this occasion and honor this icon of women's emancipation, a variety of events take place in Indonesia, and Indonesians will always wear their regional traditional dresses.
On this occasion, several daughters of the Sultan of Yogyakarta have agreed to participate in a panel discussion, where they will talk about their special role as modern princesses, Javanese ideals of beauty, and the use of traditional herbs in the form of jamu.
