Student results from the project seminar ‘Memory cultures and memory politics’



 

The interactive showcase exhibition curated by Muktaa Schwemmlein and Francine Buder on the role of the infamous Radio des Mille Collines in the Rwandan genocide of 1994 can be seen in the entrance area of the Department of African Studies (4th floor) until mid-2025. The exhibition combines visual impressions with podcasts. QR codes are used to provide historical information and insights into Milo Rau's re-enactment play HATE RADIO.

Lisa Weber and Safira Harnischfeger's short documentary film ‘Kolonialwarenläden’ (‘Colonial Goods Shops’) explores the material colonial heritage in our everyday habits. Through a search for traces in Hamburg and Berlin, the filmmakers reveal colonial continuities in advertising, consumer behaviour and global economic inequalities.
