Jenny Jaffe, a wildlife veterinarian, spent most of 2019 and 2020 in the rainforest of South-West Côte d'Ivoire following around wild chimpanzees. In her free time, she carried out a small project to document Oubi, her colleagues' mother tongue. As there was very little existing information available, Sebastian Nordhoff, a professional linguist, provided guidance. She will describe her experience as a non-linguist documenting the language and preparing it for inclusion in the archive for endangered languages, ELAR. Sebastian Nordhoff will provide more information on specific characteristics of the language. If students would like to prepare in advance, they can register with ELAR free of charge and access all the recordings and pdf files that Jenny Jaffe has collected.
