General information
1. General information
Doctoral theses on topics with a regional connection to East Asia are possible. The admission requirements are regulated in § 5 of the doctoral regulations. If you plan to apply for admission as a doctoral candidate, you should contact a potential primary supervisor (usually a faculty member) at an early stage.
2. Supervision by Prof. Klöter
Prof. Klöter only supervises theses that are related to his own research topics. If you are interested in pursuing a doctoral degree in one of these areas, you should make an appointment for a preliminary meeting at an early stage. In preparation for the meeting, you should prepare an exposé (length: approx. 15 pages). This exposé should include the following points:
- Working title of the dissertation
- Brief summary of the topic and research question
- Outline of the current state of research
- Working hypotheses, research questions, and objectives of your own work
- Method(s)
- Expected results and their relevance to the field of research
- Planned chapter structure of the dissertation
- Work plan (schedule in months)
- Selected bibliography
Only after approval by the supervisor will the application for admission be submitted to the faculty.
3. Doctoral positions and project funding
It is currently not possible to award paid doctoral positions. However, we would be happy to advise you on preparing an application for external funding from organizations (e.g., the German Research Foundation) or foundations.
