Dr. İclal Ayşe Küçükkırca

We are very pleased to welcome Dr. İclal Ayşe Küçükkırca as a guest researcher at the Department of Gender and Media Studies. Within the framework of a Philipp Schwartz Research Fellowship, Dr. Küçükkırca will continue to work on her topic "Homelessness and Homemaking in Peace and War Times" for the next two years. Dr. Jenson Joseph

Jenson Joseph is Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow at the Department of Gender and Media Studies for the South Asian Region, Humboldt University, Berlin (Nov. 2020-April 2022). His current projects look at the changes in media cultures in India, post-1990s, beginning with the arrival of private satellite television and leading to today's reign of informatic media forms. His project at the Department of Gender and Media Studies for the South Asian Region, Humboldt University, will analyze the contemporary new wave Malayalam cinema as an entry point into understanding the changing notions of subjectivity, agency and desire in popular imagination in the region of Kerala, using mediation as the central theme of enquiry. His research interests are history of media, theories of the subject and desire, cinema studies and theories of contemporary media transformations. Further information on Dr. Joseph's profile can be found here.

 

Dr. Mallika Leuzinger

Mallika Leuzinger is a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University. She studied history and gender studies at Cambridge University and art history at UCL. She is interested in postcolonial modernity, gender, everyday technologies, and archives. Her doctoral research focuses on the spaces and relations of "domestic" photography and explores the practices of Haleema Hashim, a Kutchi-Memon woman in the South Indian port city of Cochin, and the peripatetic Bengali twin sisters Manobina Roy and Debalina Majumdar.
