Short Biography


 

Dr. Tamer Söyler is an Assistant Professor (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) at the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin where he works as a researcher, lecturer, and director of the Global Studies Programme.

Previously, Dr. Söyler worked at Universidade Federal Fluminense as a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer; at the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence “EU in Global Dialogue” (CEDI) of Technische Universität Darmstadt as a fellow; and at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, as a doctoral researcher and lecturer. Before his graduate studies and academic work, Dr. Söyler had worked in the private sector in the field of international trade and media.

Dr. Söyler has a Ph.D. in Sociology from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, an MA in Social Sciences (Global Studies) from Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and University of KwaZulu-Natal and a BA in International Relations from Istanbul Üniversitesi. He also studied at University of Virginia and Jawaharlal Nehru University for three semesters during BA and MA studies.

Dr. Söyler's main area of interest is re-emergence of power centers in the Global South. While his doctoral work had focused on the philosophical and sociological dimensions, his postdoctoral work extends the topic towards the political dimension. Dr. Söyler focuses on The Challenges of Social Inequality from the perspective of Critical Thought, and Social Change while using Emancipatory Thought as an overarching idea linking different components of his research.

Dr. Söyler is interested in building upon further knowledge by exploring further themes related to the field of transformation and society. Other than his academic activities, Dr. Söyler engages in consultancy projects, publishes in non-academic media for the wider public, and works as an academic advisor and editor.
