CURRICULUM VITAE
 
Sushmita Nath is a PhD candidate at the Center for Political Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. In July 2012 she submitted her M.Phil thesis entitled ‘Is Multiculturalism Good for Women? An Analysis of Indian State Practices in the Aftermath of the Shah Bano Judgment.’ Her research focuses on debates within contemporary political theory relating to themes of secularism, feminism and multiculturalism. Her forthcoming publication is a research article entitled “Accommodating Religious Demands and Gender-justice Concerns: Indian State Practices after the Shah Bano Judgment” in the peer-reviewed journal: ASIEN – The Journal on Contemporary Asia 126 (2013). At the Institut für Asien- und Afrikawissenschaften, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Sushmita’s research focuses on a comparative examination of the conception of state neutrality in India and Germany through the Shah Bano case in India and the Fereshta Ludin case in Germany.
