Passing of Esteemed Professor of Mongolian Studies, Dr. sc. Uta Schöne: A Tribute
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of the esteemed Professor of Mongolian Studies, Dr. sc. Uta Schöne, on April 7, 2024. She dedicated over 40 years to Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, remaining the sole representative of Mongolian Studies following structural changes in the 1990s. Throughout her tenure and beyond retirement, she tirelessly imparted knowledge of the Mongolian language, culture, and history to numerous students. She supervised countless master's, bachelor's, and doctoral theses, nurturing the academic paths of many young researchers. In her scholarly pursuits, Dr. sc. Schöne focused on socio-political themes, particularly gender issues within Mongolian society. Collaborating on various research projects with emerging academics from Mongolia, she contributed to the development of renowned scholars in their homeland.
Today, the presence of Mongolian Studies at Humboldt-Universität owes much to Dr. sc. Uta Schöne's dedication.
