Abstract:
This presenatation will be based on a chapter of my PhD dissertation which is entitled 'Bodies and Water'. In this chapter I explore how Wawonii people understand the relationship between water and bodies in a variety of ways. How the influences of water on bodies are interpreted relates to subjectivity, geographic surroundings and situational concerns. Water is understood as a source of mythical origins, as a cure for illness, as a vital part of ritual ceremonies, as a danger, and in extreme circumstances as a cause of illness and death.
