The talk examines key trends in Taiwan's political communications in the January 2016 election. I am interested in how spending figures and appeals compare with earlier elections. I also consider the effectiveness of these communication campaigns and what they can tell us about Taiwanese public opinion as well as voting behaviour. I will examine a number of examples of election advertisements to illustrate the divergent approaches taken by both the mainstream and smaller challenger parties.
