Tobias Delfs has been a member of the DFG's long-term project "Modern India in German Archives, 1706-1989 (MIDA)" at the Seminar for South Asian Studies at the Humboldt University from 2018 till 2024. He habilitated on German Botanists in and around India and their participation in colonialism in the 19th century (venia legend: South Asian Studies). In the winter semester 2024/25, he holds the substitute professorship for the chair "Kulturen und Gesellschaften Südasiens".

His main research areas are imperial and global history, the modern history of South Asia, but also the history of Europe (particularly Northern Europe and the German-speaking region) and its interconnections in the world. Of particular interest are the history of knowledge and environmental history.
