Checkpoint Dynamics in the Southern Thai Conflict
The installation of checkpoints is one of the main strategies employed by the Thai army to counter the insurgency in the southern Thai borderland, which is inhabited by the so-called ‘Malay-Muslim minority’. In this presentation, I will present field research data on checkpoints and suggest to interpret the military techniques used at checkpoints as performances of the power to violation to render Other bodies vulnerable.
