I am currently PhD student in African History at the Department for African Studies at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. I completed both my Bachelor and Master’s degree in History at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil). My Master’s thesis focused on photography about African women published during German colonial time. I was awarded with a Grant offered by Higher Education Personnel Improvement Coordination (Capes Foundation, Brazil) for 24 months (2014-2016).
My doctoral research focuses on how German colonialism used photographs in Africa and the ways wherein the circulation and production of photography created connections with the colonial system more broadly. Through a Global History approach, this project seeks to comprehend a colonial photographic standard about labour thematic.
The doctoral research is funded by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD 10/2018 – 09/2022) and supervised by Professor Andreas Eckert.
Research focus:
- Colonialism in Africa
- Global History
- Visual History/Photography
- Togo, Cameroon, Namibia and Tanzania
